When you'd do this
An Ogg file won't play on an iPhone, in iTunes or in your editor. Telegram voice messages (.oga), WhatsApp voice notes (.opus), and audio from Linux apps and games are usually Ogg.
What to expect
A 4-minute OGA at 128 kbps is about 3.7 MB; as an MP3 at 192 kbps it's about 5.5 MB. For a voice message, 128 kbps (about 3.7 MB for 4 minutes) is more than enough.
Recommended settings
192 kbps (the default) for music — Opus is efficient, so MP3 needs more bitrate to keep up. 128 kbps for voice messages.
Where it plays
Every phone and computer, including Apple devices and apps that don't open Ogg files.
Good to know
- .ogg and .opus files are read too: the tool goes by what's inside the file, not its name.
- Ogg holding Vorbis or Opus is read. FLAC inside an Ogg is read whole, so it can be up to 200 MB and 30 minutes.
- An MP3 made here can be up to 60 minutes long.
How to do it
- Choose your OGA files, or drop them on the page — as many as you like.
- Each is set to MP3. Change one on its own row if you like, and the MP3 bitrate and the channels in Settings.
- Convert all, then download each MP3, or all of them in one .zip.
Questions
- Is OGG the same as OGA?
- OGA is the name for an audio-only Ogg file; .ogg is the older, general one. This page converts both.
- How do I convert a Telegram voice message to MP3?
- Save the voice message (an .oga file), choose it here and press Convert.
- Does it work for WhatsApp voice notes?
- Yes — a WhatsApp .opus file is Ogg Opus, which this page reads.
