A PNG is lossless, so as TIFF or BMP every opaque pixel is kept exactly, and as WebP or JPG it's compressed at the Quality you choose — usually much smaller, with detail you're unlikely to notice left out. As GIF it's cut to 256 colours or fewer.
- An animated PNG (APNG) gives its first frame only.
- Transparency is kept as WebP, PNG and TIFF, and all or nothing as GIF; JPG and 24-bit BMP fill it with the Background colour.
- Choosing PNG itself re-encodes it — to resize it or strip its metadata.
- PNG files can be up to 256 MB and 268 megapixels.
- WebP is made by the browser's own encoder in Chrome, Edge and Firefox and by libwebp (WebAssembly) in Safari; PNG and JPG by the browser; GIF, TIFF and BMP by the tool itself — so every format can be made in every modern browser.
- Camera details, location and other metadata are removed, and so is any colour profile: colours are converted to sRGB. A photo's orientation is applied first, so it stays the right way up.
How to do it
- Choose your PNG files, or drop or paste them on the page — as many as you like.
- Each starts as a WebP; pick another format for every file with Convert to in Settings, or for one file on its row.
- Convert all, then download each image, or all of them in one .zip.
