When you'd do this
A PNG photo or screenshot is too big to email or upload, or a form, print service or older app only takes JPG. Phone and computer screenshots are PNGs, and photos exported from design tools often are too.
What to expect
Photos shrink the most: a PNG photo usually comes out several times smaller as a JPG at the default 80%, with no difference you'd see at normal size. Screenshots and graphics with text and flat colour shrink less, and can show faint smudges around sharp edges. Width and height stay the same unless you Resize.
Recommended settings
80% (the default) for photos; 90% for screenshots with small text, where JPG's artefacts show first. If the PNG has transparency, set Background to match where the image will go — white for documents, black for dark slides.
Where it opens
Every device, app, browser, email client, print shop and upload form.
Good to know
- JPG has no transparency: transparent areas become the Background colour.
- Logos, line art and text look crisper as PNG or lossless WebP — JPG is made for photos.
- JPG is lossy: keep the PNG if you'll edit the image again.
- If the JPG comes out bigger than the PNG — it happens with simple graphics — the row says so, and you can keep the original.
How to do it
- Choose your PNG files, or drop or paste them on the page — as many as you like.
- Each is set to JPG. Change one on its own row if you like, and set Quality, Background and Resize in Settings.
- Convert all, then download each JPG, or all of them in one .zip.
Questions
- Will converting PNG to JPG make it smaller?
- Usually, and by a lot for photos. A simple graphic with a few flat colours can already be smaller as a PNG; each row shows the change.
- What happens to the transparent background?
- It's filled with the Background colour in Settings: white by default, or black, or any colour you pick.
- What JPG quality should I choose?
- 80% suits photos; 90% or more keeps the text in screenshots sharp.
- Can I convert lots of PNGs to JPG at once?
- Yes — add them all, press Convert all, and download each JPG or all of them in one .zip.
